What is an A/B Face Veneered MDF Sheet?
Veneered MDF consists of a core of medium-density fibreboard (MDF) with a thin layer of real wood veneer applied to one or both faces. In our case, it is applied to both faces of the sheet.
The A/B grading refers to the visual quality and consistency of each side of the sheet:
A Face - Prime/Decorative Face
- This is a better quality face, designed to be the visible or presentation side.
- It has a more uniform grain with fewer natural imperfections and a better-quality veneer match.
- Ideal for surfaces such as kitchen doors, desk tops and panels where appearance is paramount.
B Face - Secondary/Reverse Face
- Still veneered, but not held to the same visual standard.
- May have more natural wood variation, minor imperfections, or less consistent grain matching.
- Intended for the reverse side or areas that are less visible in the final installation.
When using veneered MDF, you should position the A face outwards where it will be seen. The B face is still usable but best reversed for internal or hidden sides (like the back of a cupboard or inside of a panel).
